Traditional diets often fail for women over 40 because they typically focus on calorie restriction and rigorous exercise, which can be counterproductive. As women age, their metabolism naturally slows down due to hormonal changes, particularly the decline in oestrogen levels during menopause. This hormonal shift can lead to increased fat storage, especially around the abdomen, and a decrease in muscle mass.
Calorie-restricted diets can exacerbate these issues by further slowing down metabolism and causing muscle loss, making it even harder to maintain a healthy weight in the long run. Additionally, these diets do not address the underlying hormonal imbalances that contribute to weight gain and other health issues.

Traditional weight loss approaches operate on the principle that we simply need to get into a calorie deficit in order to lose weight. However, this frustratingly ignores the fact that there are many factors that need to be in place in order for your body to be able to get into fat-burning...
Your insulin levels need to be optimal and your cells need to be sensitive to the effects of the insulin hormones (meaning, your cells need to be listen to insulin instructions)
You require certain nutrients in order to convert your fat stores into energy (AKA burn fat!)
Your gut and immune system needs to be functioning optimally so that it's controlling inflammation, because inflammation inhibits fat loss.
Your thyroid needs to be functioning OPTIMALLY (not just normally), so that your metabolism is fast enough.
Your cortisol (stress hormone) levels need to be well regulated to prevent inflammation and disruption to sex hormone and thyroid function.
You liver's detoxification pathways and gut elimination need to be optimal to support hormone balance and prevent fat loss plateaus caused by a high toxic load.
NONE of these 'fat loss inhibitors' are addressed by getting into a calorie deficit! In fact, not eating enough and/or over-exercising can drive fat gain, by making these imbalances worse!

No, this is our Essential Plan, which includes a pre-determined step by step plan. This will not be personalised to you, but rather covers all the areas that are typically a priority for women in their 40s and beyond.
If you are looking for a personalised programme, our full programme will be a better fit for you.
Within the full programme, we typically complete a urine test and blood test.
These are comprehensive and validated tests that will help to identify any underlying imbalances or deficiencies that may be contributing to stubborn weight.

Yes! Absolutely! The programme is a good fit for any woman who wants a holistic, whole-body approach to sustainable fat loss! It's for those who are looking for a complete solution and who are committed to optimising health. It's not for those looking for a quick-fix.
This is the case for many of the women that join The Nourish Method. While you may be eating really nutritious foods, the balance may not be optimal to best support your body. Further to this, food is the foundation but not the only factor. We'll be working on a lot more than just food. Because, sometimes no amount of 'healthy eating' will address the underlying imbalances that may be causing stubborn weight. We may need to use functional foods and/ or lifestyle adjustments to properly address these imbalances.
Not with this programme! Not only will you eat real food for your meals, you’ll eat plenty of it. Plus you’ll be eating formerly forbidden foods like butter, beef, bacon and eggs (if you like those things).
No. There is no reason why your family can't eat the same stuff as you. It's easy to adapt the meals to suit different family members without having to cook several different things, or adapt the meal you're already used to.
We are not prescriptive; we won't give you a meal plan or tell you to eat X at Y time on Z day. That sort of approach gets boring real quick, and is very difficult to sustain. Instead, we'll guide you on what food to prioritise or minimise, and how to balance your meals based on your needs and schedule. We want to ensure that you are set up with the information and tools you need to make informed food choices, so that after the programme, you're set up for long-term success. We have over 130 recipes you can use for inspiration, and we'll be there to guide you every step of the way!
Nope. There's lots of flexibility in the programme. Sometimes when you have food intolerances, this can be due to imbalances in the gut. We'll be targeting gut health as this is a key area when it comes to hormone balance and metabolism. Often food intolerances resolve when you address the underlying cause.
We are not prescriptive; we're not going to tell you to do X workout Y times per week. But, we will certainly guide you on the types and amount of exercise that would align with your goals. For example, a common scenario we see is when someone is doing a lot of very intense exercise or extended cardio in order to achieve the maximum calories burn, however, when there are certain imbalances present, such as thyroid issues or cortisol imbalance, this approach to exercise could make these imbalances worse, driving weight gain. We'll guide you on how to adjust (or begin) your exercise regime for the best results. And if you're limited on how much exercise you're able to do, that's absolutely fine - we'll adjust our recommendations accordingly!
The recipes are easy. They don’t require you to spend hours in the kitchen working with complicated hard to find foods - who’s got time for that? You'll need about 30 minutes when you first get started in order to find your feet but that doesn't have to be all in one go. Then each week, you'll need about 15-30 minutes to plan and prep.
Yes! This programme was created because women who are peri-menopausal and menopausal, or with other hormonal imbalances, need to nourish and heal their bodies in order to achieve weight loss. Counting calories just doesn't work when your hormones are imbalanced. It has been created with you in mind.
If you have multiple health concern, you may be better suited to our full programme.
In the full programme, we regularly work with women with multiple health concerns and we are well trained to safely give food, lifestyle and supplement recommends in such circumstances. We always check our recommendations to ensure that they are safe alongside health condition and medications.
Whether you take HRT or not, we can absolutely help you work towards your weight and health goals!
Whether you feel healthy and just want to lose the last 10lbs, or if you're not in the best of health with a long-list of medications, we can absolutely help! Many of the women we've worked with have managed to reduce their medications (with the approval of their doctor), as a result of optimising their health using our guidance.
The main exceptions are as follows:
- If you are pregnant or breast-feeding. It's best to wait until after to get the most out of this programme. If you are planning on conceiving, the programme is a good fit as the steps we'll take will be supportive of fertility health.
- If you have an active eating disorder, you should work with a counsellor and/or a nutritionist who specialises in this area. While we are able to help our clients with their mindset and relationship with food or even a history or disordered eating, someone with an active eating disorder needs a more specialised support.
- If you have been diagnosed with chronic kidney disease, or CKD, you have very specific dietary requirements and need to work with a dietician who specialises in this.
We don't have a set intake date; you can start as soon as you've enrolled! Getting starting is easy and you'll be able to begin getting stuck in right away if you want to! Equally, there's no pressure, and if you need a few days or even week to work through introductory steps, that's fine too!
Absolutely not!! One of the main reasons why The Nourish Method Essentials Plan is 4 months long, is to help account for these types of 'interruptions'. In any 4 month period, you will likely have a the holidays, vacation or work travel, and it's super helpful to have our team of experts on hand to help guide you through this. How you approach the 'break' is up to you - you may choose to try and say 'on-plan' as much as possible, or you may choose to have a complete break. Either way is fine; we'll be there to help you decide and plan accordingly.
Yes, the programme is something that is designed to work as a whole and you are committing to the full 4 months.
