For some, particularly those with severe digestive symptoms, simply eliminating toxic gluten, found in wheat barley and rye, can provide relief from symptoms, and that’s enough evidence for them. However, for those with more discreet symptoms, like high blood pressure, thyroid dysfunction or mental illness for example
, improvement as a result of removing gluten can take a long time, and you may want evidence before deciding that removing gluten is going to be worthwhile.
Gluten tests can be very comprehensive (although there are some suspect ones out there), and the right one will tell you specifically what part of the gluten protein you are sensitive to, and how they may be effecting your body i.e. blood pressure, thyroid, brain etc.
There are gluten allergy/coeliac disease tests that are available through Louise Digby Nutrition. All these tests help identify various forms of allergy or sensitivity to gluten or wheat.
The tests that are useful are only available through registered practitioners. The tests available to the public provide minimal information that is often unhelpful.
